Cadets Master Bush Skills at Chichester State Forest
The Australian Cadet Corps recently returned from an unforgettable four-day adventure in the heart of the Chichester State Forest, nestled in the picturesque lower region of Barrington Tops, New South Wales. The purpose of this outdoor expedition was to immerse our cadets in an environment where they could fine-tune their bush survival skills, orienteering proficiency, and fieldcraft knowledge — all essential elements contributing towards their badge achievements within the Unit.
Throughout the four days, the Cadets participated in a variety of engaging activities designed to test their abilities, enhance their skills, and foster a spirit of camaraderie. The undoubted highlight, though, was the opportunity for these young adventurers to put their culinary skills to the test.
Culinary Art
Under the guidance of their Officers, the Cadets banded together to prepare a hearty beef stew, simmered to perfection over an open flame. The resulting dish was not only a testament to their teamwork and newfound cooking prowess but also a delicious testament that their culinary skills extend beyond the realm of nuggets and hot chips. The sounds of satisfaction and pride were audible around the campfire as they savoured their creation, a moment that surely dispelled any lingering parental skepticism about their children’s cooking abilities.
"Resounding Success"
Even the cool temperatures of the river, its floor studded with smooth pebbles, couldn’t deter our brave Cadets from taking a refreshing dip. They immersed themselves in the natural beauty of the surroundings, creating lasting memories and forming stronger bonds with their fellow Cadets.
This bush camp was a resounding success, a sentiment echoed by all participants. It was an experience that left them not only with an enhanced set of skills but also with a treasure trove of stories and memories to share back home. The smiles on their faces and their enthusiastic recounts of the camp’s highlights were a testament to the enriching and enjoyable time they had.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to the dedicated Officers who voluntarily committed their time and expertise to make this camp such a triumph. Their guidance, patience, and unwavering commitment to providing an enriching experience for our Cadets played a pivotal role in the camp’s success.
These camps form a crucial part of the Australian Cadet Corps experience, cultivating life skills, resilience, and leadership abilities in our youth, all while fostering a sense of community and respect for our natural environment. We eagerly anticipate our next adventure, ready to create more unforgettable experiences for our Cadets.
