Cadets Preserving the ANZAC Legacy

ANZAC Day, a poignant day of remembrance observed annually on 25th April, reverberates deep within the heart of every Australian and New Zealander. This solemn occasion pays tribute to the valiant ANZACs who landed at Gallipoli during World War I, standing as a testament to their courage and sacrifice.

In keeping with the spirit of unity and resilience that the day embodies, our Cadets, across the organisation, immerse themselves wholly into community observances. They take pride in their crucial role of preserving and promulgating the ANZAC legacy by actively participating in their respective local Dawn Services.

Commissioner Trent Aylward expressed the significance of ANZAC Day for the Cadet Corps following his attendance at the Dawn Service in Sydney. “ANZAC Day serves as a vivid reminder of the sacrifices made and the courage displayed by our heroes. Our cadets and officers carry this history with them, participating in these memorials not only as a duty but a profound honour. As we approached ANZAC Day this year, I encouraged Cadet Units to actively participate, acknowledging the essence of this day and its importance to our organisation and the broader community.”

A shared commitment to honour in Toukley

In Toukley NSW, Cadets from Tuggerah Lakes Cadet Unit united with the local RSL sub-branch to commemorate the day. Dawn services were held at Toukley RSL Memonrial Cenotaph dedicated to the fallen, with Cadets standing shoulder to shoulder with community members in silent respect. A march through the heart of town further cemented their commitment to keeping the ANZAC spirit alive.

Second Lieutenant G Moody from the Tuggerah Lakes Cadet Unit, reflected on the experience, “Instilling the essence of ANZAC Day in our youth is a responsibility we carry with pride. Witnessing the Cadets participate in the Dawn Service and Parade was a heartening sight. Their involvement underscores our shared commitment to honour those who have served our nation.”

Parallelly, Cadets based in the Illawarra region joined forces with the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS) at Shellharbour Airport, where they facilitated a unique Dawn Service. In harmony with HARS pilots and engineers busily prepping planes for ANZAC Day flyovers, they exemplified unity and collaboration. Their well-orchestrated event allowed the aviation professionals to partake in the tribute without disruptions to their crucial flight preparations.
