Cadets Commemorate Remembrance Day

On 11th November, Cadet Units from the Australian Cadet Corps joined their local communities in solemn Remembrance Day services to honour those who have served and sacrificed for Australia. From small towns to major cities, cadets and officers participated in ceremonies across the nation, reflecting the Corps’ commitment to remembering the contributions of our servicemen and women and upholding the spirit of community.

Remembrance Day marks the anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I and has become a national occasion for all Australians to pause, reflect, and remember the courage and selflessness of those who served. At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, Australians unite to observe a minute’s silence in tribute to all who have fought and continue to serve for the peace and freedom we enjoy today.

For the Australian Cadet Corps, Remembrance Day is more than a historical milestone; it is a day to instill values of respect, gratitude, and honour in the next generation. By attending these ceremonies, cadets learn the importance of remembrance, connecting them with the legacy of Australia’s military history and the spirit of those who came before them.

In an address to mark the day, Commissioner Trent Aylward shared a heartfelt message on the significance of Remembrance Day and the dedication shown by cadets and officers:

“Today, we pause to remember the service and sacrifice of those who have defended our nation and upheld the values we hold dear. Remembrance Day is a powerful reminder of the courage, resilience, and loyalty displayed by Australians throughout our history. It is our duty to honour their memory, and I am incredibly proud of the cadets and officers of the Australian Cadet Corps who have shown true dedication in joining local communities across the country to pay their respects. By standing together today, we keep the legacy of our servicemen and women alive, ensuring that their sacrifices are never forgotten.”

Commissioner Aylward expressed his gratitude to all cadets and officers who participated in ceremonies nationwide, acknowledging their commitment to honouring Australia’s heroes and setting an example of service for future generations. He added:

“To our cadets and officers, thank you for your steadfast dedication to this important day. By commemorating Remembrance Day with your communities, you embody the values of the Australian Cadet Corps and demonstrate the strength of our bond as a national family.”

As the Australian Cadet Corps observed Remembrance Day in communities across the country, cadets stood proudly, remembering and paying tribute to the generations who served and made the ultimate sacrifice. This day serves as a reminder of the significance of remembrance, ensuring that the stories and sacrifices of Australia’s servicemen and women will always be honoured.
